In partnership with Wigan Education Business Partnership, a new classroom in company is being developed offering FREE curriculum linked work related learning. Blakeley’s have a full time dedicated Education Officer delivering sessions in school, supporting primary and secondary schools throughout the region.
At the beginning of 2010 we started developing our education service and now offer stimulating, thought provoking and fun programmes for Key Stage 2 upwards. All the sessions link with the national curriculum and can focus on personal capabilities and enterprise using the theme of waste and recycling.

Our aims
This is an exciting opportunity for Blakeley’s to engage with young people and the community through education. We work to minimise our impacts of our surroundings and wish to support and develop the real enthusiasm and passion young people have in protecting their local and global environment.
We aim to:
- Develop awareness of the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and influence a change in behaviour.
- Support schools, young people and the local community in reducing their impact upon the environment.
- Raise awareness of the role of the waste industry
Blakeley’s Education Service into 2011
We are currently developing facilities on our site to welcome school parties for full day or half-day visits.
There will be a ‘classroom’ area that will accommodate up to 30 pupils, with guided tours available of the working materials recycling facility.
Adjacent to the site we are developing the land to enable outdoor environmental activities to take place. Children will be able to hunt for minibeasts, dip for pond creatures, study aquatic biodiversity and terrestrial habitats and much more.
Watch this space for further details or email jclarke@blakeleys.co.uk to request to be added on to our education mailing list to receive details of the developing programmes and dates when bookings are being taken for site visits.
