When waste enters our material recycling facility it is meticulously sorted. Bulk recyclable material is first to be extracted, then trommels remove fine particles and food. The waste then travels down picking lines where recycling operatives remove as much recyclable material as possible, including paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, wood and non ferrous metals. Finally magnets automatically remove any ferrous metals.

The extracted materials are then bulked together and sent to the relevant recycling or reprocessing company. Wood, paper, cardboard, plastics, and metals can all be used again in the production of new products and materials. Reducing the need to create more materials from original sources.

Our material recycling facility has enabled Blakeley’s to achieve in excess of 65% recycling of mixed Commercial, Industrial and construction wastes for the past 15 years.

The planned development of an Environment, Energy and Ecology Centre will further enhance the company’s ability to recycle waste materials with the goal to achieve zero landfill by 2012.

In the period before the Environment, Energy and Ecology Centre is operational Blakeley’s Waste Management Ltd has established a relationship with Orchid Environmental in Huyton Merseyside. The Orchid facility allows for further treatment and recovery of residual waste from the Materials recycling facility and creates additional materials for recycling together with a biomass fuel which can be used for replacement of fossil fuels.

This facility allows Blakeleys to offer its customers an immediate solution to enhanced recycling targets and recovery of waste materials diverting greater amounts from Landfill.
